Utes to the Poinsettia Bowl

The University of Utah football team has accepted an invitation to play against Navy in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Thu., Dec. 20. The game, which features two 8-4 teams, kicks off the 2007-08 bowl season and will be televised nationally on ESPN. Game time is 6 p.m. PST (7 p.m. MST) in Qualcomm Stadium.

Utah has won its last six bowl games, dating back to 1999, which is the second-longest postseason win streak in the nation. The Poinsettia Bowl marks the fifth-straight bowl appearance for the Utes.

While I am not a fan of the crappy bowls the MWC is attached to, it's always good for the team and the school to make a bowl game. At least this year the Utes have a decent opponent in the Midshipmen. Should make for a good game. It'll be better than the Vegas bowl for sure! UCLA again? Sheesh!!! Someone really needs to fire the conference commissioner and get someone in there who realizes that the MWC isn't just a mid-major! The conference had the first BCS-Buster in the Utes, the Utes beat Pac-10 and other "Major conference" teams on a pretty regular basis - even when they're not coached by Urban Meyer, and still we get the Vegas bowl and Poinsettia bowl??? The Holiday bowl and Independence bowls were always better than this crap. Anyway...

I have 2 tickets to the game, I don't know if I'll actually make it but we'll see. If the family remembers, when we were in SD last year on the Christmas Cruise, the teams for this bowl game were at Sea World the same day we were - TCU and Southern Illinois I think?

Anyway - GO UTES!!!!!
