The UFC is something people either love or hate for the most part. I've always loved it. When I was in High School and we'd rent the tapes of Royce Gracie, Tank Adams, Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock, it was always a good time. UFC has changed quite a bit and it's a lot more technical now, but the controlled violence is still a huge part of the event and that's the big draw! Everyone wants to knock the crap out of someone once in a while, and since we can't do that in a civilized society, watching trained professionals do it is very cathartic!
To me, the really cool thing about UFC is how hard these guys train, then how hard they fight, and then what good sports most of them are afterwards. There may be trash-talking before hand, and rightfully so, but after a fight it seems like the vast majority of the fighters are pretty cool to each other and respectful of the skills of the other fighter. In such a violent sport that is kind of a cool paradox.
The other thing I like is fighters like Forrest Griffin and Matt Serra that came up through "The Ultimate Fighter" TV show to be UFC champions - Kind of like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood winning "American Idol" and going on to critical success (LOL!!!!) Though, I'd like to see Clay Aiken get out of a rear naked choke (though he might like that!) And you gotta love a guy like Griffin who looks like he got hit by a train even when he wins - so stinkin' tough!
I can't wait to go to Vegas and catch a live fight card! It'll be such a cool experience, even just one time B-)
UPDATE: I'm going to the UFC 79!!! Lidell vs Silva and Hughes vs St. Pierre! This is going to be AWESOME!!!! :-D <-- is there a bigger grin than this???
