When I was on my mission, I had some investigators that would insist that we have dinner with them and watch the Euro 1992 Soccer tournament. So, the tournament started again today (thank heaven cuz if I had to see one more Kobe or Yankees highlight on ESPN, I'm going to puke!) Portugal look good, and it doesn't hurt to have the best player in the world right now in Cristiano Ronaldo.
Update 6/11/08: Portugal 3-1 over Czech Republic. This is a HUGE win, the Czechs were some of the favorites to advance far in the tourney. This win puts Portugal through to the next round for sure. Deco scored the first goal, pretty ugly, but if it crosses the line, it counts. Ronaldo then had a great shot - drilled it right past Petr Cech (which we really like because he's Chelsea's goalie and we hate Chelsea!!!!) and then Ronaldo provided an assist in extra time to seal the deal. The Czech goal was really nice, but alas, it goes for naught! FORCA PORTUGAL!!!!
Today the beat down Turkey 2-0. Not a huge task, Turkey haven't beaten Portugal since the '50's. The Turkish defense was so keyed in on Ronaldo that Pepe (a central defender) scored the first goal. And the second was scored by a new kid, his first international goal for Portugal.
